Kirby Smart shares concerning takeaways from Georgia's second scrimmage

Georgia doesn't have much time to figure things out before the season begins.

Georgia football had their second and final scrimmage of fall camp last weekend, and Kirby Smart does not sound pleased with it. Smart was asked about this scrimmage during his press conference on Tuesday, and what he shared should be a big concern for all UGA fans.

"Yeah, I felt that the scrimmage was hot, and it affected our performance as opposed to the first scrimmage," Smart shared via 247sports.com. "In the history of those scrimmages, it usually goes scrimmage one, struggle, scrimmage two, we get better. This was more of a scrimmage one with 70 degrees, it was really fast, it was really competitive, it was a really good scrimmage one, and then scrimmage two was similar to past scrimmage twos where we had some sloppiness, guys got tired, water in the shoes, just it was hot... So we still got a ways to go, didn't have as much success defensively in the second scrimmage as we did in the first, but we had bright spots individually, probably on both sides of the ball."

Georgia couldn't overcome the elements during Saturday's scrimmage

There are two reasons why Smart believes Georgia struggled during their second scrimmage this past weekend. He believes the heat got to the Bulldogs on Saturday and the extra hard practices they had Thursday and Friday leading into this scrimmage impacted his team a lot.

These are normal reasons for Georgia to have some miscues during their scrimmage, and this fatigue is something Smart was struggling to create at this year's camp because the weather has been a lot cooler than normal. But Georgia was finally challenged by the elements this past weekend, and it sounds like they came up short.

It especially sounds like the defense struggled the most during this scrimmage, which is polar opposite of what happened at their first scrimmage a week earlier. The best Georgia teams under Smart have always been led by the defense, so hopefully this won't be a common theme during the upcoming season.

While this statement from Smart is a little scary, it is important to note that he has never been that happy with where any of his teams are at during fall camp. So Georgia in all likelihood will be just fine this season, and they will prove that on Aug. 30 against Marshall.
