Georgia's victory in the SEC Championship game on Saturday was as meaningful as a win can possibly be. Not only did it win Georgia the SEC for the second year in a row and secure their spot in the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings, but this win but to bed a lot of negative narratives surrounding the program.
Kirby Smart knew this, and immediately after the game he grabbed the mic in Mercedes-Benz Stadium and shared an important message with the fans in the stands and those watching at home as well.
”These fans have been through a lot of agony and heartache in these games. But not tonight. Not tonight baby.”

Kirby Smart shares a nice message with Georgia's fans after beating Alabama
Georgia has not always fared so well in the SEC Championship game in the past. Saturday was their 13th trip to the SEC Championship game, and entering this matchup they had a 5-7 record. And against Alabama specifically they were 0-4 in the SEC title game.
Those poor records however were improved upon as Georgia did what they have never been able to do and beat Alabama when the SEC title was on the line.
Beating Alabama is also a big deal for the program as well. Smart entered this game with a 1-7 record against the Crimson Tide while Georgia had lost nine of their last 10 overall meetings against Alabama as well. So for all the good that Smart has brought the program, they have been unable to overcome Alabama.
Georgia and Smart will have to beat Alabama more than two times before they can claim they've conqured the beast that is the Crimson Tide, but Saturday was a big step in the right direction. Smart knows this, Georgia's fans know this, and the rest of the country knows this as well, and that is why this message will mean so much to the entire program, university and fanbase.
