A lot of drama between Miami and Georgia is taking center stage. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and Kirby Smart both attended an award show Monday night to crown the nation’s best freshman defender. That award went to Georgia’s Ellis Robinson, but before they could get to the presentation of the award both Smart and Cristobal spoke on stage.

The purpose of this was to introduce their player who was up for this award, but those introductions quickly took a back seat as both coaches began cracking jokes at each other’s expense. And Smart may have made the best joke of all.

“You (Cristobal) probably ought to spend some time with Steve Spurrier because he won more conference championships at Duke than you have in Miami.”

Kirby Smart put Miami, Mario Cristobal back in their place

Miami is supposedly a football school. Sure they are good at other sports, but when thinking about Miami sports the first thing that comes to mind is football. Unfortunately for them they have not found a lot of success as a program throughout the last two decades.

Miami joined the ACC in 2004. Since then they have not won the conference in football. Yes, that’s right, Miami has not won an ACC Championship one time in the 21 years they have been in that conference.

Georgia however is one of the most successful programs in the history of the SEC. Just in Smart’s tenure alone they have won four SEC titles and two National Championships which are things Miami can only dream of winning.

And to make matters even worse, Duke (a basketball school) just won the ACC this past season.

It feels like it’s only a matter of time until Miami finally wins the ACC, but at this rate who knows if they ever will. But even if they do they still won’t even compare to Georgia’s success under Smart, and that’s a really good feeling.
