NIL has been in force for about five years now, and during that time it has become clear that Georgia has some of the deepest pockets in the country. It however has also become clear that Georgia doesn't have the most money though, and that is okay with Kirby Smart.
Smart recently spoke with the media before Georgia's practice this week, and he continued to tout why he thinks Georgia's NIL strategy is much better than every other program in the country.
"So I don't know that we have the best players or the most talented players or the highest paid players," Smart said via 247sports.com. "But we will have the players that get the most reps and get the most improvement and the most coaching and most development. And that's what we sell."
Kirby Smart flexes Georgia's NIL strategy
Smart has told everyone time and time again why he believes in Georgia's unique NIL strategy. Could they pay recruits and transfers more to entice them to come to Athens? Probably, but he doesn't want a team full of players that are only here for the money.
Smart wants players that want to be at Georgia because they can't picture themselves anywhere else. He wants guys to come to Georgia because they want to work hard and be developed into NFL prospects. And those that do stay and develop into great players will be rewarded with a lot of NIL money to stick around for even longer.
Other schools spending more money than Georgia will always look like they are better off. Just last week Lane Kiffin confirmed that his roster this season is making over $40 million. But Smart and Georgia are focused on winning and doing it the way he thinks is right, and so far that has worked out extremely well for everyone in Athens.
