Kirby Smart turned his aggression on the media during Georgia's first practice

The media better pay more attention to Georgia's punt team next practice.

Kirby Smart has a reputation for being one of the most intense coaches in all of college football. That is something that he displays during every practice and game at Georgia.

However, it isn't often that he turns his aggressive coaching attitude on the media, but that is exactly what happened at one point during Georgia's live practice the media was able to attend on Thursday.

“Nobody from the media wants to write down our punt team depth chart… The most important play in football is the punt unit.”

Kirby Smart calls out the media during live practice on Thursday

It's unclear if the above remark from Smart was a joke or not, but it's hard to imagine a scenario where he would be messing around. Smart does joke around with the media form time to time during press conferences, but he is not one to ever joke around during a live practice. And this comment was made towards the media in the middle of UGA's practice.

Georgia's media covers as much as they can during their limited time they get to watch practice, but it's obvious that this group needs to prioritize what they think is most important. This is what makes Smart different from everyone else because he thinks every aspect of practice is extremely important. This includes watching the special teams drills and figuring out what UGA's depth chart should be on the punt team.

The media, according to Smart, did not show that they cared enough about the punt team's depth chart, and this bugged him to the point where he had to call them out over his microphone. Again, there is a chance Smart was just cracking a joke, but that seems unlikely given their practice was currently in session when he said this.

The next question to ask is very simple. Will Georgia's media start paying attention to the punt team and how they practice the next time they are at practice? Unless someone wants to be yelled at by Smart again, they likely will at least make it seem like they are interested next time.
