Kirby Smart loves Georgia, that has never been in question. He once again proved that on Thursday night by helping motivate the women’s soccer team to a big victory inside of Sanford Stadium.
That message was definitely received last night 🐶 https://t.co/hVw7pBWUdl pic.twitter.com/LJhmTL41VM

Yes, you read that correctly. Georgia women’s soccer team played inside of Sanford Stadium Thursday night with the goal of setting an NCAA attendance record. Kirby Smart got behind the team as did the Georgia fan base, and all 25,433 fans in attendance helped set the NCAA soccer attendance record.

Kirby Smart helped lead Georgia women's soccer to historic night in Sanford Stadium
Georgia's soccer game in Sanford Stadium was historic for multiple reasons, and they go far beyond Kirby Smart being in attendance and helping motivate them.
Georgia knocked off James Madison 6-0 in their home opener. They also set the NCAA soccer attendance record which is an amazing accomplishment. This game was also the first soccer game played in Sanford Stadium since the 1996 Olympics as well. So while it was fun to see Smart there interacting with the team, this night had far more importance to it than that.
Smart's presence was important though. He could've just sat in the stands and watched the game. He didn't have to be involved with the team and he didn't have to be interviewed live during the game either. His love for Georgia is too great for that though. There likely was never a chance he would miss out on such an important night in Georgia athletics history, so even though his team is just two weeks away from their season opener he took the time to support the women's soccer team.
In a day and age when most college football and men's basketball coaches only care about winning, Smart is one of the outliers who actually cares about his school and the entire athletic program. Other coaches may fake it, but he genuinely cares.
A big reason why he cares is because he played football and graduated from Georgia. UGA was also the first school to take a chance on him as a head coach as well. Georgia gave him everything he asked for when they hired him, and he brought the program back to the top of the college football world and ended their 41-year national championship drought.
There could be plenty more championships in Georgia football's future, and those titles will be a big part of his legacy. The amount he cares bout Georgia as a school and every other athletic program however is what separates him from all the other good head coaches in the college game.
