There are a lot of reasons why Georgia lost to Ole Miss at the Sugar Bowl. Many of those reasons however were expected.
The Ole Miss offense played extremely well behind the heroics of quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, and the Rebels were coached extremely well and were extremely prepared for this game. All of that was expected, but the environment in the stadium was one thing that Kirby Smart was not ready for.
"It felt like you were on a road game."

Kirby Smart credits Ole Miss fanbase for dominating Georgia fans
The Ole Miss crowd showed up for this game. It isn't surprising that they had more fans in attendance than Georgia did because this is their first time making the College Football Playoff, so every Ole Miss fan wanted to take advantage of this opportunity. Georgia on the other hand has been in the playoff five times now, so their fans may have been waiting for the semifinals or National Championship game to show up.
Smart said that the Ole Miss crowd was so dominant that they made it feel like a road game. That is a huge advantage for Ole Miss, especially in a game where Georgia trailed by 10 points and had to make a late comeback. Georgia did make that comeback and tied the game with a minute to play, but they unfortunately left too much time on the clock.
Georgia now has to go back to the drawing board because they can't seem to find an answer for the expanded playoff. The Bulldogs are now 0-2 in the playoff since it expanded, and both losses occurred after they earned a first round bye. It doesn't make sense for them to try and avoid getting a bye in the future, so they need to find a better way to attack these games.
And that may be include getting more fans to show up to create a more favorable atmosphere.
