Georgia football has had a very interesting month of December so far. Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs won the SEC Championship against Texas, beating the Longhorns as underdogs for the second time this season, but that victory came with a serious price to pay.
Starting Georgia QB Carson Beck was injured during the final play of the first half, causing him to miss the entire second half.
In the days after UGA's conference championship win, a lot of details emerged surrounding Beck's injury. And most of those details were bad news for Georgia and Beck as he was not given a timetable for a return. That put his availability for UGA's upcoming game in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff in serious jeopardy as it likely would take a miracle for him to be healthy by then.
And Thursday evening, ESPN's Pete Thamel confirmed the inevitable and shared that Beck will not be available for Georgia's CFP run.
Carson Beck done for the season
Georgia fans were still holding out hope that Beck would make a return at some point this season in the CFP. However, those hopes are officially gone after this latest update from Thamel.
After the first few updates from Georgia after Beck's injury, Beck being unable to play seemed like the most likely scenario. It is however very unfortunate to see that scenario come true as Beck was always the best quarterback for this team.
But for now, Georgia will turn their entire attention on getting backup QB Gunner Stockton ready for the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1. Thankfully he was able to get his feet wet against Texas in the SEC Championship game, and all of this extra time getting ready for this game should help him and the rest of the team immensely.
