Five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson has just wrapped up a very busy month of June. This past month began with visits to Clemson and Oregon before he made his way to Athens to visit his current leader Georgia.
Coming out of this visit it was widely reported that Georgia was the clear leader in his recruitment, but Atkinson was in no rush to commit. In fact, he did the exact opposite and scheduled one more official visit that would prove to be Georgia's biggest hurdle yet.
That visit was to Texas, which is the final official visit that Atkinson will take this summer. Even after he announced this visit, every recruiting expert still believed that Georgia was the leader and didn't have anything to worry about. That sentiment however is no longer the case as On3's Steve Wiltfong detailed below.
"I think you could look at Texas as the biggest threat to Georgia."

Texas named biggest threat to Georgia with 5-star LB
The above quote from Wiltfong clearly states that the Longhorns are the biggest threat to Georgia in Atkinson's recruitment. However, Wiltfong did not go as far as to say that Texas fully caught up to Georgia in this recruitment.
So while this update is a little concerning, it tells Georgia two important things. This updates shows that Georgia is still the clear leader and that Texas has a lot of work to do to surpass UGA and win this recruitment.
This doesn't mean that Texas is incapable of winning Atkinson's recruitment, but Georgia fans shouldn't be too worried about them or any other program right now.
The hope now is that Atkinson announces his commitment soon, because the sooner he makes his final decision the better for Georgia. And what a win this would be as Atkinson is a top 10 player in the country as well as the No. 1 linebacker in the 2026 recruiting class and top ranked player from the Peach State.`
