It was all Georgia in the first half of their SEC road game at the Mississippi State Bulldogs. While they did take a 24-7 lead into halftime, a scary moment happened on the field near the end of the half on what was Georgia's final possession of the frame. Ahead of their fourth scoring drive of the day, star tight end Lawson Luckie had to be helped off the field after being hit on what was a targeting penalty.

Mississippi State safety Jahron Manning delivered a crushing blow on the Georgia tight end. While he laid their motionless for a little bit, Luckie was able to get to his feet and walk off toward the Georgia sidelines with the help of the training staff. It was a shame because the Georgia tight ends were playing so well in the first half vs. Mississippi State. Those Bulldogs could not match their physicality.

Here is the play and the call resulting from Manning delivering the big hit on Luckie right before half.

The good news about the play itself was that Luckie was able to get to his feet. The bad news is he may not return to the field today. Let's do give Manning credit for immediately coming over to Luckie to make sure he was okay after the hit. His day is done, but Mississippi State looks to be too behind the eight ball to realistically catch Georgia at this point. Georgia is an outstanding second-half team.

Lawson Luckie injury update: Georgia tight end ruled out for the game

Seconds into the second half, Luckie had been ruled out for the game. This is not surprising at all.

With the way this game is going, Georgia can use its depth to its advantage and play ball-control offensively without having to throw it to a tight end who appeared to take a knee to the head. Georgia has a huge home game next weekend when a top-15 Texas Longhorns team comes to town. Texas is on a bye this week. If Georgia beats them, it may end the Longhorns' chances of making the playoff.

For now, Dawg Nation can only hope that the rest of the team can stay healthy heading into its latest biggest game of the season. Truth be told, it did not seem like a good idea to thrust Luckie back out there, especially after Georgia took a 31-7 lead on their first possession of the second half. Right now, it is all about Georgia playing some good defense and then grinding the clock out to a victory.

We will keep you posted on anything pertaining to the health of Luckie ahead of the Texas game.
