In case you missed the news, legendary college football analyst and sportscaster Gary Danielson has announced that he will be retiring after the 2025 college football season. Danielson was one of the most liked sportscasters who called SEC games for years on CBS, but after the new media rights deals over the last few years he has now been calling Big Ten games.
But that hasn’t stopped Danielson from reminiscing on his time spent around the SEC where he has called countless amazing games. But which game was the best?
Danielson recently sat down with David Pollack and shared the one game with the best atmosphere that he called.
“I did the Notre Dame at Georgia (game). I have never seen anything like that atmosphere,” admitted Danielson via saturdaydownsouth.com.
“That was as loud as I’ve ever heard anything for an hour and a half, 3 hours,” Danielson continued.

Georgia deserves more respect for their atmosphere
In case you don’t remember this game (how could you not), Notre Dame traveled to Athens in 2019, a game Georgia won 23-17. This was one of the best games in recent history to take place in Sanford Stadium, which is to be expected when these two heavyweights take the field together.
And while the game itself gave so many great moments like D’Andre Swift’s 98-yard touchdown run, it was the atmosphere created by Georgia fans that stuck out to Danielson the most.
Danielson has had a long and illustrious career calling SEC games, and knowing how many talented teams there are in the conference every year means that he has called countless big time matchups over the years. And these matchups almost always create an impressive environment.
But it was Georgia’s non-conference tilt with the Irish that stands out the most to Danielson, and this is a great reminder of how great Georgia fans truly are.
