Malaki Starks labeled "loser" during 2025 NFL Combine

This is quite the overreaction.

The NFL Combine has come to an end, so that means it is time for NFL Draft experts to weigh in and proclaim their bold takes from the Combine this weekend. A lot of Georgia football stars performed very well at the Combine, but someone who maybe didn't meet expectations was safety Malaki Starks.

Starks by no means had a bad performance, but he did not perform like the No. 1 safety in the Draft like many thought he would. But others are viewing Starks' performance as a failure, including Vinnie Iyer who named Starks as one of his "losers" from this weekend.

"Starks, out of Georgia, is another do-everything SEC East safety prospect, but the athleticism, speed, and measurables ended up disappointing," Iyer shared via sportingnews.com. "He is still a first-rounder, but the gap keeps closing between him and Emmanwori."

Another safety outperformed Starks

Starks didn't have the best performance in the world at the Combine this weekend, but he didn't underperform to the point that his draft stock would decrease much. Iyer even said that himself in the above quote as he thinks Starks will still be a first round pick. That's why his claim that Starks was a "loser" at the Combine doesn't make much sense.

Pretty much the only reason Starks was labeled a loser was because of a safety who performed better than him at the Draft. South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori had the best performance out of all the safeties which is something most people expected to be saying about Starks. But that unfortunately was not the case.

Starks will have another chance to prove he is the top safety in the Draft when Georgia hosts their Pro Day later this month. And hopefully Starks is able to do that so he can prove people like Iyer wrong.
