There’s no sugarcoating how bad Georgia’s loss to Saint Louis was in the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs came out and played as flat as a team can possibly play from the start of the game. And as the game went on it did not get any better.
Georgia trailed Saint Louis by 17 at the half and then gave up an 18-0 run to start the second half. Games really can’t get much worse than what fans witnessed Thursday night.
However, some of Mike White’s postgame comments somehow made this loss feel even worse.
“I can’t dodge that. We played with less effort than we did in any game this season, and it’s not even close,” White said via x.com. “Not even close.”
”We went in and watched some plays at halftime that I’ve never seen this team do,” White continued. “That I’ve never seen us do, not them, us. With point blank layups at the rim, with guys looking and not even jumping and trying to contest a shot. Just the lack of effort was really disappointing. I haven’t experienced something like that in a long, long time. I don’t remember the last time.”
Mike White’s explanation for Georgia basketball’s loss won’t help fans feel any better
White openly admitted after the game that his team played with very little effort. That is extremely alarming because it is impossible for the stakes to get any higher than they were Thursday night.
It was win or go home. Thursday wasn’t just a random regular season game in mid-January, their season’s life was on the line. So to come out with as little energy as Georgia did is a reflection of how little the entire team seemed to care about this game.
Georgia fans deserve better. They have been so excited to cheer on a winning team these last two years, but the lack of effort in the biggest game of the season makes this arguably the worst loss in Mike White’s tenure at Georgia.
