Georgia basketball is on an absolute tear to start this season. Entering Saturday's SEC opener against Auburn the Bulldogs were 12-1 and the No. 23 team in the country, but an easy non-conference slate has left a lot of people wondering just how good they actually are.

Georgia however shut all their critics up as they took down Auburn at home in overtime 104-100.

This obviously is a huge rivalry victory, but this win was dwarfed by the big name recruit that was on campus visiting Georgia.

Georgia makes their pitch to the No. 1 recruit in the country

AJ Williams is a five-star small forward who is the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2028 recruiting class. He also is the No. 1 player from the state of Georgia, so he is someone that UGA is aggressively pursuing.

Typically Georgia is not a program capable of landing a player like this, but since he is from the Peach State they absolutely have a chance. Look no further than the 2019 recruiting class when they landed Anthony Edwards who was the No. 1 recruit in the country who was also from Georgia.

Williams has all of the top programs in the country pursuing him, but he is giving Georgia as good of a chance as anyone to win his recruitment. His visit to Athens for the Auburn game on Saturday should go a long way in helping Georgia land him because it showed just how much Mike White has improved the program over the last two years.

Georgia still has two months of basketball to play to show the college basketball world just how good they are. But so far they have played extremely well and are well on their way to making the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row.

And who knows, maybe they will compete for an SEC Championship this season too.
