Georgia made a lot of progress with many recruits last weekend. The Bulldogs had what was potentially the biggest recruiting weekend in UGA history last Saturday, and one of the biggest names on campus was linebacker Jalaythan Mayfield.

Mayfield is a four-star linebacker who is the No. 4 player at his position in the 2027 recruiting class, and he reportedly had an amazing time during his visit to Georgia this past weekend.

But it was the comment had made about Georgia being "Linebacker U" that stands out the most by far.

4-star LB respects Georgia's success at linebacker

No program has had more success at developing linebackers during the last 10 years than Georgia. Thorughout Kirby Smart's tenure at UGA, but the Bulldogs have had three Butkus Award winners which is an award that goes to the nation's best linebacker at the end of every season. The most recent winner of this award was Jalon Walker who won it last season.

Mayfield spoke about how this success really stands out to him, and the fact that talking with Defensive Coordinator Glenn Schumann on the field was a big deal to him.

"Briefly on the sideline I got to talk with coach Schumann," Mayfield shared via 247sports.com. "He is a great coach. He has developed multiple Butkus Award winners and I think it would be easy to learn from him."

This report from 247Sports indicates that Georgia is one of Mayfield's top four schools right now. While it would be nice to be his No. 1 school, there is plenty of time for Smart and his staff to work their magic and earn that top spot in the long run.

But for now Georgia is one of the contenders to win this recruitment, and that is a great spot to be in.
