One of the stories that unfortunately dominated Georgia football's 2024 season was the injury bug. Injuries hurt the running back room the most for Georgia last season, but the offensive line was sevely impacted as well. So much so that it seemed like UGA had to throw out a new starting offensive line almost every game.
Now that Kirby Smart and Georgia are in the offseason, the hope was that the entire team would be able to get healthy and stay healthy, that way they can have as productive of an offseason as possible. Unfortunately those hopes were shattered on the offensive line as a projected starter has undergone a surgery that will limit how much he can practice this spring.
Left tackle Monroe Freeling will be limited during spring practice
Jake Rowe with On3 reported early Monday morning that offensive tackle Monroe Freeling has undergone a shoulder injury that will limit how much he can practice during the spring.
The good news is that Freeling had this surgery now, so he will have more than enough time to recover and be 100% healthy before the 2025 season begins. However, missing time in the offseason is a big deal because now is the time that players develop the most. Sure players get better during the season, but the offseason is when they can focus solely on their development as they don't have to worry about watching film and preparing for their next opponent.
Freeling is entering his third season at Georgia and is coming off his sophomore season where he appeared in all 14 games which included four starts. And now that Georgia has lost a lot of talent this offseason on their offensive line, Freeling was in line to step in and become the full time starter at left tackle during the 2025 season.
This injury likely won't change that, but it is unfortunate that he won't be able to practice as much this spring. But hopefully he is able to make a full recovery very soon so he can get back out there and start preparing for the 2025 season with the rest of the team.
