Georgia’s season came to an end at the end of last week, and unfortunately the Atlanta Falcons season ended on Sunday as well. This means that for another season Georgia fell short of winning a National Championship and the Falcons missed the playoffs.
That is about as bad of a finish to the football season as Georgia fans could’ve expected, but a new Kirby Smart discussion is about to begin that would make things even worse.
New Kirby Smart rumor will begin any day now
The Atlanta Falcons finished their season with a win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Unfortunately that only brought their record to 8-9 and yet another season without the playoffs.
The Falcons haven’t made the playoffs since 2018, so that clearly is the biggest goal for the organization right now. Head coach Raheem Morris has failed to get them to the playoffs in each of his two seasons with the team, so the Falcons decided to move on and fire him.

On the surface this news doesn’t seem like it will impact Georgia at all, but that’s not the case. Every time Atlanta has fired their head coach Smart has been brought up as a candidate to be their next head coach, and that likely will happen again this year.
Smart has never shown interest in taking an NFL job, but if he was ever going to Atlanta would be the most likely landing spot. Smart has a lot of ties to the state and that organization would view hiring him as a home run, so they likely would be willing to make him a very competitive offer.
If Smart does leave then that would turn into a disaster for Georgia. But at this point Atlanta hasn’t made him an offer and he hasn’t shown any interest, but these rumors always begin when Atlanta needs a new head coach and they certainly will again this year.
