Georgia football is one of the greatest programs in all of college football. There aren't many programs out there that rival them in all of history, but there is one stat that Georgia trails many other programs.
Heisman Trophy winners.
Georgia somehow only has two Heisman Trophy winners in their history which includes Frank Sinkwich in 1942 and Herschel Walker in 1982. If Georgia is ever going to become the greatest program of all time, they are going to have to add a few more Heisman Trophy winners to their trophy case.
The Bulldogs have been close to winning their third Heisman Trophy a few times since Walker won in 1982, and the most recent close call was quarterback Stetson Bennett in 2022. However, a new rule proposal that has gone viral, courtesy of Miami (FL) head coach Mario Cristobal, might have caused Bennett to win the Hesiman in 2022.
NEW: Mario Cristobal calls for the Heisman Trophy to be awarded after all postseason games are played🤔

“That whole award before the postseason games are played is absolutely bizarre to me.”

Stetson Bennett could have won the Heisman Trophy with this rule change
Cristobal's propsed rule change is simple. He believes the Heisman Trophy should be voted on and awarded after the postseason is complete instead of before it begins. And for an award that goes to the greatest player in college football each season, it seems crazy that postseason performance isn't factored in.
Bennett finished fourth in Heisman voting in 2022. USC quarterback Caleb Williams took the trophy home while TCU quarterback Max Duggan and Ohio State QB CJ Stroud finished about Bennett as well. But had voting occurred after Georgia's National Championship win, Bennett would have had a great chance at winning the award.
In the College Football Playoff Semifinal, Bennett threw for 398 yards and three touchdowns while also running for one more score against the Ohio State Buckeyes. One week later Bennett somehow topped that performance by throwing for 304 yards and four touchdows with two additional touchdowns on the ground. This National Championship win came in blowout fashion against TCU, which is very significant to point out.
Bennett lost to Ohio State and TCU's quarterback in the Heisman Trophy voting, but after beating both players head to head that likely would have changed. And after how stellar these two performances were, he could have passed Williams who was busy losing to Tulane in the Cotton Bowl.
Unfortunately Georgia will never know if Bennett could have won the Heisman in 2022 if this rule change was in effect. But either way this rule change should be put in place because the title of the "best college football player" should go to someone who had an amazing regular season and dominated in the postseason like Bennett did in 2022.
