Georgia has entered the home stretch of their season with all of their goals still in front of them. The Bulldogs are 6-1, the No. 5 team in the country and are in prime position to finish the season with five more wins.

But it hasn’t been easy for Georgia so far this season, and the biggest reason why is because of their defense. The Bulldogs used to be able to rely on their defense to win them games, but that hasn’t been the case this season. And it’s that fact that led Nick Saban and Pat McAfee to call them out during College GameDay on Saturday.

”The biggest difference about Georgia’s team. When do you remember when they outscored opponents to win?”

The best Georgia teams under Kirby Smart have been able to rely on their defense every single game. And when Georgia’s offense had a bad game they were still able to win because their defense was that good. But that isn’t the case this season.

Georgia’s defense has been gashed multiple times this season, with Tennessee and Ole Miss finding the most success. Alabama and Auburn also had stretches where they were dominant against the Bulldogs defense as well. This is a very concerning thing because all it will take is one bad offensive performance and Georgia could suffer another loss.

The good news is that Gunner Stockton and Georgia’s offense have been on fire this season, and they aren’t showing signs of slowing down. But if UGA’s defense doesn’t improve there will be a lot of pressure on the offense to continue playing at a high level, and it would be nice for that pressure to not exist.

Georgia is coming off a bye week before their matchup with Florida on Saturday. This hopefully gave them time to figure out their issues on defense to the point where they will be a strength going forward. So look for Georgia to flex their muscles against Florida on Saturday to help propel them through the rest of the season.
