Georgia football became the laughing stock of the SEC for the week after losing to Alabama for the seventh time in the Kirby Smart era this weekend. While there is no way to excuse this loss, there were a lot of positive takeaways for Georgia from this game.
Most notably is the fact that Georgia was one or two plays away from being the team that emerged victorious. Nick Saban of all people recognized how close Georgia was to beating his former employer, and because of that he issued a word of warning to the rest of the SEC.
"The ball didn't bounce their way this time, but if I was anybody ... I would be thinking that, you know, maybe I might have to play Georgia in the SEC Championship," Saban shared via dawgnation.com.
Nick Saban predicts Georgia will still make it to the SEC Championship game
Just last season Georgia lost to Alabama early in the season. And what happened after that? The Bulldogs finished the regular season strong, made it to Atlanta, won the SEC Championship game and qualified for the College Football Playoff.
If Georgia could accomplish all of that after losing to Alabama last season, why can't they do it again?
The odds are in Georgia's favor the rest of the season because their most difficult games are all at home. And outside of those home games, the Bulldogs will be favored to win every other game on their schedule.
So the future is still bright in Athens even after their loss to Alabama. And while it is extremely frustrating to see Georgia lose to the Crimson Tide again, at the end of the day the Bulldogs goals are much larger than any one regular season game. Their goal is to win championships, and that goal is still attainable for this Georgia team.
