Georgia football is in a very interesting spot compared to the rest of the country when it comes to the Transfer Portal. Most teams are looking to add as many pieces as possible as they look to drastically improve before next season, but that isn't the case with Georgia. Sure they have some areas they need to improve on, but as the reigning SEC Champions there is less work they need to do to stay at the top.
That however doesn't mean this portal season isn't super important. But Kirby Smart's No. 1 priority in the portal is something that many other teams can't relate to and something people aren't talking about enough.
Georgia's top priority in the Transfer Portal isn't being talked about enough
So far this offseason Georgia has lost 11 players to the Transfer Portal and have added five new players. Overall that isn't too terrible, but they do need to add some players at key positions.
But Georgia's top priotiry isn't too add players, it is to keep as many of their current players in Athens as possible.
One of the defining features of Georgia's team this season was their youth. The Bulldogs were one of the youngest teams in the country and still went 12-2 and won the SEC. So if they can keep their team together then the expectation would be for them to win the conference again next year.
That is an extremely difficult task because any player could realisitically enter the portal. In fact, there are rumors circulating that Nate Frazier could enter the portal which no one ever imagined was possible.
Georgia still has a lot of positions where they could use some help from the portal, but Smart's task is clear. He needs to keep his roster in tact as much as possible, and if he does then Georgia could win the SEC for the third season in a row.
