Georgia football will kick of their College Football Playoff run on Jan. 1 against the winner of the first round matchup between Ole Miss and Tulane. If the Bulldogs win that game then there is the potential of a massive matchup with the Ohio State Buckeyes in the semifinals.
Georgia however has not commented on the potential of playing Ohio State because they know there is a lot of work to do before they get to that game. The same however can't be said for the Buckeyes because star safety Caleb Downs is already talking about the potential of playing Georgia in the semifinals.
“I haven’t played them (Georgia) since my freshman year. I mean Miami and Texas A&M, they are great teams so it will be — the focus is on them first,” Downs said via ugafootballlive.com. “But if we get to that point — we definitely lit, we definitely lit.”
Georgia will make Caleb Downs regret wanting to play them
Downs has a lot of history with Georgia. He was the No. 1 recruit from the state of Georgia coming out of high school, but he ultimately chose to play for Alabama and Nick Saban.
Downs spent one season with the Crimson Tide then entered the Transfer Portal when Saban retired. Instead of making the move to his hometown team he decided to head north to Ohio State. This decision worked out very well for him as he won a national title with the Buckeyes last season, but that doesn't matter to him anymore. All that matters is playing Georgia in the semifinals, and he may just get his wish.
Both Georgia and Ohio State have to win their quarterfinal matchup first, and that is not a guarantee for OSU who will play Miami or Texas A&M. But if both teams win they will face each other in the semifinals.
While it makes sense for Downs to want to play Georgia since he grew up a UGA fan, the Bulldogs will do everything they can to make him regret saying this.
