On3 gives Georgia biggest backhanded compliment that no one saw coming

Gunner Stockton will return to Georgia for one more season this fall as one of the top quarterbacks in the country. In fact, he even is one of the leading candidates to win the 2026 Heisman Trophy as well.

Stockton is a player that everyone in the country should fear. He earned that reputation based on his play last year both in the passing and running game. But even after a very successful season he still has a long ways to go before he goes down as one of the greatest Georgia quarterbacks of all time.

That however didn't stop On3 analyst Jake Crain from crowning Stockton as a more feared player than former Bulldog Stetson Bennett.

Gunner Stockton's latest compliment came at the expense of Georgia royalty

Georgia knows how great of a player they have in Stockton. They know he is capable of leading them to a National Championship this fall. But even if that is true, he has not reached Bennett's level yet.

There is a great argument for Stockton being a better runner than Bennett. They may even be pretty comparable as passers as well. But Bennett has a significant advantage against Stockton when it comes to being a winner.

This is no disrespect to Stockton by any means, he just led Georgia to a 12-2 season this past year which included an SEC Championship. In fact, this was his second SEC title as he led the Bulldogs on their second half comeback against Texas in 2024. But Bennett did what Stockton has been unable to do, win a National Championship. Bennett actually won two national titles at Georgia and Stockton unfortunately has an 0-2 record in the playoff.

Until that changes Bennett should be regarded as the best Georgia quarterback of all time. So while this is a nice compliment for Stockton, even the biggest Georgia fans would tell On3 to pump the brakes.
