Georgia is still dealing with the consequences of five-star quarterback Jared Curtis flipping to Vanderbilt on Tuesday. It may feel like it will be impossible for Georgia to recover from losing Curtis, but this isn’t their first rodeo when it comes to losing a quarterback right before Early Signing Day. So Kirby Smart and his staff may not have an answer yet, but Georgia will be just fine without Curtis.
Georgia however won’t be able to find a QB as talented as Curtis this late in the cycle, but they do have one thing in their favor as they no longer have a large portion of NIL money tied to Curtis anymore.
Georgia can benefit from losing Jaded Curtis
Reports indicated that Curtis was set to make $900,000 in his first season at Georgia next year. That amount was also scheduled to increase over the course of his career at UGA as well. But now that he is longer with Georgia, the Bulldogs can spend that money elsewhere.
It ma my be too late to spend that much money on their 2026 recruiting class, but those resources would go a long way during the offseason in the Transfer Portal. And since Georgia isn’t getting Curtis, they likely will need to add at least one QB out of the portal this year.
But $900,000 is enough money to bring in pretty much any player they want out of the portal. If Georgia wants to add a star receiver or even a big name for their defense they will be able to add at least one if not more extremely talented players with this extra money.
So while Georgia’s top choice would have been to keep Curtis, losing him isn’t all that bad. The Bulldogs quarterback room is still healthy, and they can now use this extra NIL money to improve it even more or spend it elsewhere on the team.
