Optimal Georgia vs Auburn game time was given to a boring game instead

The SEC may have forgotten that Georgia even exists.

Georgia has played four home games this season and so far they have not had a night game. Typically they will play at least one night game at home every season, and their next home game against Auburn in two weeks seems like a great to pick.

That unfortunately will not be happening because kickoff was just announced for 3:30 pm EST for this game.

Georgia and Auburn is one of the most historic rivalries in the SEC, so that reason alone makes them a good candidate to be a night game. Auburn however isn't ranked and will be 3-2 entering this matchup since they are on a bye this week, so that does take a little shine away from this game.

The SEC however gave the two night slots to some boring games instead. Arkansas and Vanderbilt, who are potentially the two worst teams in the conference, will play at night on ESPN2 and Kentucky who travels to Oklahoma will get the second night game. The Sooner and Kentucky is a little bit better of a game, but allowing Arkansas and Vanderbilt play at night is ridiculous.

The SEC keeps dropping the ball when it comes to Georgia's game times

Typically the SEC will have two night games each weekend with one being on the SEC Network and one on one of ESPN's family of networks. Oklahoma and Kentucky have the SEC Network game while ESPN will try to get viewers to watch Arkansas and Vanderbilt play, good luck with that. ESPN will usually put their night SEC game on ESPN or ABC, but they clearly know how bad this game is so they moved it to ESPN2 instead.

This is the second time Georgia was passed for a home night game they potentially deserved. Last week they played Vanderbilt with kickoff at 12:45 pm EST when the SEC gave LSU a night game against McNeese State. That decision is even worse than Arkansas and Vanderbilt playing at night.

Georgia has two more home games after Auburn where they could potentially host a night game, but only one of those two games is a realistic option.

SEC could be saving Georgia's home night game for Missouri

Missouri and Georgia Tech are the Bulldogs' final two home games this season after they play Auburn. Georgia Tech is one of the worst Power Four teams in the country this year, so that game is unlikely to be rewarded a night game. There is a chance Missouri could be a night game though.

Georgia and Missouri play in the third to last week of the regular season on Nov. 14. As of now this game will either begin in the mid-afternoon (which typically means 3:30 EST) or at night between 6:00 and 8:00 EST. There clearly is hope for this game to be at night, and if they SEC is paying attention they will give Georgia a home night game against the Tigers so they can actually have one this season.

One way Georgia and Missouri can increase their chances of this game being at night is if they keep winning. If both teams are ranked high and have a good record this game would be much easier to put at night. Georgia has a few tough games to play before they face Missouri which includes Alabama, Florida and Ole Miss, and Missouri has to play Ole Miss and Texas before they come to Athens. If both teams can do well against these teams and rattle off some wins then maybe Georgia will finally get their home night game.

There are four other games that could be flexed to night games this week. Texas at LSU seems like a guarantee to get one of the two night games, but other than that Georgia and Missouri is the only other game that would feature two ranked teams. The other two games likely won't turn into ranked matchups either, so Georgia might have a good chance at their only night game at home this season when the play Missouri in week 11.
