Paul Finebaum calls out the CFP committee for not respecting Georgia
Another week in college football has come and gone, and that means that another edition of the College Football Playoff rankings are out. After beating Tennessee this past weekend at home, Georgia football has moved up just two spots in the committee’s rankings to No. 10.
The bright side is that this puts Georgia back in the 12-team bracket as the 11-seed, but most feel like Georgia deserves a lot more respect than this. Specifically when comparing UGA to some of the teams ranked higher than them.
It’s easy as Georgia fans to complain about this, but you know the committee’s decision to put Georgia at No. 10 is bad when people without ties to Georgia are echoing what UGA fans are saying.
That includes ESPN’s Paul Finebaum, who had this to say about the committee’s updated rankings on Tuesday.
"This committee is not serious. There are football coaches on this committee and there is no way those football coaches can tell me or anyone else with a straight face that they really think Indiana, Penn State, Miami, schools like that are better than Georgia."
Georgia deserves to be ranked higher
Finebaum agrees with almost everyone in the country that Georgia deserves to be ranked higher. They have the No. 1 strength of schedule in the country and have arguably the best combination of three wins as well after beating Clemson, Texas and Tennessee. But somehow, someway, teams like Penn State, Miami (FL) and Indiana are ranked higher.
Nobody can deny that these teams deserve to be in the CFP picture as they are all undefeated or only have one loss, but their resumes are horrific. All three teams do not have a marquee victory yet this year, which is difficult to do after playing 10 games. Georgia on the other hand has more than proven themselves time and time again, even after their two losses.
At some point the committee needs to value teams that actually have good wins on their resume and not just look at what everyone’s record is. The overall record only tells part of the story, to get the full story you have to see who each team has actually played.
And when doing that it becomes quite clear that Georgia is the far more impressive team compared to these three.
