Last week Kirby Smart and Georgia football were accused of tampering with Illinois running back transfer Josh McCray. This accusation came from Illinois head coach Bret Bielema, who claimed that it is a little suspicious that McCray was on a flight headed to Georgia within 12 hours of officially entering the transfer portal.
This accusation made headlines across all of college football, and fortunately for Georgia nearly every college football fan and analyst took their side. This includes Paul Finebaum, who went as far as to attack Bielema with the below statement.
"Knowing Bret Bielema for a long time, the only thing that surprised me is understanding his voracious appetite that he didn't bit the microphone and try to swallow it because he doesn't seem to mind running his mouth," Finebaum shared via si.com.
"I would worry more about maybe being successful on the football field so he doesn't get fired there like he did at Arkansas," Finebaum continued. "As opposed to running his mouth and making allegations that there's no chance in the world he can back up."
Paul Finebaum is taking Georgia's side
It isn't often that Finebaum takes Georgia's side in any debate. In fact, he typically is the analyst leading the charge in trying to take Georgia down any chance he gets. So the fact that Finebaum of all people is defending Georgia shows how insane it was for Bielema to make this accusation.
So at the end of the day, it is Georgia who is coming out on top after this drama for multiple reasons. Not only do they have McCray on their roster at Georgia who will certainly make a huge impact on the field, but UGA also got some good publicity after of these wild claims.
Now the only thing that can make this even better is if McCray explodes this season and turns into one of the best running backs in the country.
