3 most glaring Georgia needs coming out of the transfer portal
By Josh Yourish
Quarterback
Starting quarterback is not a problem at all. Carsen Beck performed well in his first year taking over for Stetson Bennett and even looked like an upgrade at the position. However, the guy he beat out, Brock Vandagriff was tired of waiting for playing time and transferred to Kentucky to start for Mark Stoops, so UGA is left without a reliable backup option.
Gunnar Stockton is the logical No. 2 on the depth chart, but he’s only attempted 19 career passes and 10 of them came in garbage time of the blowout Orange Bowl win over Florida State. As a sophomore next year, Stockton could be ready to take over in spurts if Beck gets injured, but that’s not the greatest insurance policy.
This is another spot where Kirby should have looked to add experience depth. Georgia is in constant win-now mode and if Florida State taught us anything last year, you need a plan beyond your starting quarterback that will give you a real chance to win games. If for no other reason than to prove to the committee that you're still one of the 12 best teams.
