Kirby Smart has not lost a regular-season game since November 7, 2020. Georgia has won its last 42 straight regular season games, however, during that stretch of SEC supremacy, the Dawgs have still struggled with Alabama.

Now, in 2024 with Nick Saban gone, it was Smart’s chance to finally dominate the program he coached for before returning to Athens. However, in Week 5 with No. 2 Georgia visiting No. 4 Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Crimson Tide with new head coach Kalen DeBoer have jumped out to a huge first quarter lead.

After one quarter, Alabama leads 21-0 while Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has completed just two of his seven attempts for 19 yards with an interception that led directly to another Crimson Tide touchdown. His counterpart Jalen Milroe has started 9-9 for 128 yards and a touchdown with another 42 yards and a score on the ground.

College football media was quick to react to the shocking result in Tuscaloosa.

Georgia didn’t look good before its bye week with a 13-12 win over the Wildcats. However, when Kentucky beat Ole Miss earlier today, it eased the concerns of many Georgia fans.

Last season in the SEC Championship game, Alabama beat then No. 1 Georgia to keep the Bulldogs out of the College Football Playoff. Now, with a different team on the field, some are still taking this opportunity to pile on.

The biggest shock isn’t the offensive struggles, it’s the defensive disaster.

It’s gotten so bad that some are starting to even compare Kirby Smart’s program to Urban Meyer’s Florida teams before his time in Gainesville came to an end.

Georiga had a chance to run things around in the second quarter, but all Alabama did was score another touchdown on a long Jalen Milroe run. The Bulldogs are down 28-0 and look lifeless.
