Kirby Smart has become very familiar with handling driving-related arrests on his team and sophomore cornerback Daniel Harris is the latest offender. Harris was arrested on Thursday night for reportedly driving 106 miles per hour and was charged with five driving-related misdemeanors.

Harris’s teammate, Trevor Etienne was arrested this offseason and charged with a DUI. Even after DUI charges were dropped, Etienne missed Georgia’s season opener against Clemson in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes Benz Stadium. Harris was not charged with a DUI, and it appears that his reckless driving charges may not keep him off the field for Georgia’s 2024 SEC opener against Kentucky on Saturday night.

Harris reportedly traveled with the Bulldogs to Lexington and the starting cornerback may not receive a team-imposed suspension for his arrest. Since Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock and team staffer Chandler LeCroy died in a fatal car crash while racing former Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter, Smart’s program has continued to see driving-related arrests including five this offseason.

Harris has been splitting time at outside cornerback with Julian Humphrey and true freshman Ellis Robinson IV. Georgia’s defense will be facing former Bulldog five-star recruit Brock Vandagriff who threw for just 30 yards on three of 10 passing a week ago against South Carolina.

Georgia has enough depth to withstand a one-game suspension for Harris especially against a lackluster passing offense in Kentucky. Harris traveling with the team to Lexington does not necessarily mean that he will see the field Saturday night.
