Two members of Kirby Smart’s coaching staff resigned on Wednesday. Scott Cochran, who has been a special teams coach in Athens since 2020, and Darrell Dickey an offensive assistant for one season, both parted ways with the team to pursue other opportunities according to a report from UGASports.com.
In a statement, Kirby Smart said, “I want to thank Scott and Darrell for their contributions to Georgia football. We wish them the best moving forward.”
Smart has named Kirk Benedict as Cochran’s replacement, elevating Benedict from special teams analyst to coordinator. Cochran began his tenure in Athens as the team’s special teams coordinator with an on-field coaching role, but in August of 2021 was replaced in that role by Will Muschamp.
However, for the past two seasons, Cochran has served in an on-field capacity as the team’s coordinator.
Georgia softball wins in 10 innings
Georgia softball is ranked No. 4 in the country but the Bulldogs needed extra innings to complete a 7-6 comeback win over unranked Wisconsin on Thursday in Clearwater Florida. Georgia junior Dallis Goodnight kept the Bulldogs undefeated with a walk-off single up the middle that drove in freshman Hannah Davila.
Goodnight also scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the ninth on a Sara Mosely RBI single. Fifth-year senior Sydney Kuma led the way for the Bulldogs with three hits including her third home run of the season. Across the first six games of the year, Kuma is hitting .750 with a 2.175 OPS, three homers, and three RBI.
Georgia is 6-0 and returns to action on Friday with two games at the Clearwater Invitational, the first at 10 a.m. ET against No. 6 Oklahoma State, then at 4 p.m. ET against No. 19 UCLA. The Invitational concludes for Georgia on Saturday with matchups against No. 7 Florida State at 10 a.m. ET and Minnesota at 4 p.m. ET.
