On Friday, Georgia wide receiver Rara Thomas was arrested on multiple counts of cruelty to children and multiple counts of battery. He is the fourth Georgia football player to be arrested this offseason, joining Trevor Etienne, Smael Mondon Jr. and Bo Hughley, who were all arrested for driving incidents, however, Thomas is the first of that group to be suspended.
Georgia Bulldogs on SI reported that according to a team source, Thomas has been suspended from the program indefinitely. This is not Thomas’s first run-in with the law. In January 2023, Thomas was arrested on charges of family violence and false imprisonment.
Now, less than a week away from the start of fall camp, Georgia will be without one of its starting receivers and will be hoping to get transfer additions Colbie Young and London Humphreys up to speed.
Smart’s deleted birthday wish
Two days after his arrest was Thomas’s 22nd birthday and on Sunday, Thomas’s head coach Kirby Smart posted a happy birthday message. However, quickly after the post went up, Smart deleted it.
More: Anthony Edwards helps Team USA past Serbia in Olympic debut
At just 22 years old, former Georgia Bulldog Anthony Edwards made his Olympic debut against reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and Serbia. Edwards played 19 minutes off the bench and finished with 11 points on 4-6 shooting with five rebounds.
Edwards’s idol, Kevin Durant went for a game-high 23 points on 8-9 from the field in just 17 minutes in the 110-84 victory. Durant is the all-time leading Olympic scorer in Team USA history.
Even before taking the floor on Sunday, Edwards already garnered attention on social media while in Paris. On the Team USA boat for the opening ceremonies, Steph Curry tried his best to set up a competition between the American table tennis team and the all-confident Ant.
