Quarterfinals

Unfortunately for Georgia, they won’t get to host a game at Sanford Stadium like the teams in the first round do, but having a bye week sounds a lot better to me.

As mentioned, Georgia would take on the winner of Penn State and BYU based on our playoff predictions. Both are undefeated at 6-0 and 7-0 respectively, but both teams at this point seem a few steps below Georgia. So the Bulldogs would be a pretty solid favorite over each, but between these two teams the edge has to be given to Penn State to advance as the home team out of the better conference.

Penn State has a lot of difficult tests in front of them, so we will learn a lot more about this team before this potential matchup, but Georgia would be the clear favorite.

The main reason is due to all the experiece Georgia has in this type of setting compared to Penn State. Penn State has never made the College Football Playoffs before, in fact they’ve only made the Big Ten Championship game once dating back to its inception in 2011.

Sure Penn State has a very good team this year and would have a chance to beat Georgia, but once they get away from their home crowd in the Playoffs they will struggle with the environment that is the CFP on a neutral field. But this isn’t new to Georgia, this is actually the norm for the Bulldogs.

So if Georgia plays Penn State, UGA should feel very confident that they’d advance to the semifinals.

Prediction: Georgia wins 38-17
