Georgia football enters the 2025 season with as many expectations as the program has ever had. That’s what comes with being the defending SEC Champion and a top five team in the country according to the preseason AP Poll.
One would assume that being a top five team in the country would mean Georgia has a lot of players that are being named to the preseason AP All-America teams. That however was not the case as only four Bulldogs made the cut on the AP’s teams that were announced on Monday.
4 Bulldogs named to preseason AP All-America teams
Of the four Bulldogs who were named to these teams, only one was named to the first team. That player is punter Brett Thorson who undoubtedly is entering the season as the nation’s best punter.
Thorson is coming off a knee injury from the end of last season, so the hope is that injury won’t hold him back. But if he is back to normal, Thorson should be expected to be one of the best punters in the country.
The other three Bulldogs included were all named to the second team which includes kicker Peyton Woodring, defensive lineman Christen Miller and safety KJ Bolden.
The first thing that immediately jumps out about these selections for Georgia is that no players on offense were selected. There are a few names like running back Nate Frazier and wide receiver Zachariah Branch who could have made the cut, but overall no offensive players being listed is pretty fair.
On defense however there are some players where it is a little shocking that they were not included. The two names that jump out the most are linebacker C.J. Allen and defensive back Daylen Everette. There is a great case for both players to be included, but their exclusion could be the thing that motivates them to reach their peak this season.
The hope now is that Georgia will end the season with more than four players selected to the final All-America teams, and if Georgia accomplishes their goals this season that more than likely will take care of itself.
