Georgia football is very accustomed to their games being one of the most viewed games in the entire country. Their recent rivalry win over Georgia Tech dominated the viewing totals that weekend, but UGA’s SEC Championship win over Texas even shattered that game.

Georgia vs. Texas was most viewed game all year
The SEC Championship game from this past weekend averaged 16.6 million viewers during the game. It also reached a peak of 19.7 millions viewers as well.
This absolutely dominated the viewership numbers from the other conference championship games as the Big 12 averaged 6.9 million and the ACC averaged 6 million. Interestingly, the BIg Ten championship game only averaged about 10 million viewers. The Big Ten is clearly the other big conference in the country along with the SEC, and they had a very close game between top five teams as well. So their total viewership being that much lower than the SEC is very surprising.
On top of dominating the weekend, this total was the largest viewership number in any one game so far this season.
Why did so many people tune in?
Obviously there was a lot of juice to this game with it featuring two top five teams and being a rematch from earlier this season. But how the game played out certainly impacting things as well.
The game being extremely close definitely helped pull in viewers as the game went on. Also, Carson Beck getting injured went viral during halftime, so that definitely brought in a lot of viewers as well.
So with all these college football fans tuning in, it’s nice that Georgia was able to win the game. Not only were they able to win, but they did so behind their backup QB who nobody believed in. So what a great time it was for Georgia to pull off this miraculous upset win with so many people watching.
