The SEC Media poll is officially out and Georgia football once again find themselves near the top of the media's preseason rankings. The Bulldogs however are not the favorite to repeat as SEC Champions this season, so let's see who the media thinks will take Georgia down this fall.
Georgia predicted to lose to Texas in SEC Championship game
The overwhelming favorite to win the SEC, according to the media, are the Texas Longhorns. Coming in right behind Texas as the No. 2 team in the SEC is Georgia.
Even though Georgia is right behind Texas, the media still view the Longhorns as a substantial favorite. Texas earned 96 votes to be crowned the SEC Champion while Georgia only earned 44 votes.
As everyone knows, these two sides faced each other not once, but twice last season. Georgia traveled to No. 1 Texas during the regular season and brought a dominant road victory back to Athens. But it was the rematch in Atlanta at the SEC Championship game that mattered most as UGA came from behind to stun Texas on the back of backup quarterback Gunner Stockton.
The interesting thing about the two games last season is that the Longhorns were favored by Vegas to win both games. On top of that, most of the media never really gave Georgia much of a chance to win either game as well. So being predicted to lose to Texas is nothing new to Georgia.
Being ranked behind Texas is potentially the best outcome for Kirby Smart and Georgia this offseason. Smart is a master motivator so he will be able to use this poll to his advantage to keep his team motivated as they attempt to prove everyone wrong once again.
Georgia will host Texas this season in Athens in their SEC season finale in a game that could impact if either team will make it to Atlanta to play for an SEC title. But don't be surprised if these two teams meet in Atlanta again this season, as the media believe that is the most likely outcome.
