The first full week of SEC play is in the books and each team in the conference has now played three games. And now that everyone has played three games in what is the best conference in the country, we are finally learning who the contenders are and who the pretenders are.
This past week saw a lot of massive results as well as a few upsets that shook up the rankings from last week, so let's jump right in beginning with the team that will be the new No. 1 team in the country in the updated AP Poll.
1. Auburn Tigers
Last Week: 1
This week's results: 87-82 win @ Texas, 66-63 win @ South Carolina
Heading into this past week, most people thought that Auburn was the top team in the country. However, Tennessee was the No. 1 team in the AP Poll because they were still undefeated. But after an ugly loss by the Vols, they will drop in the rankings allowing Auburn to slide up to the top spot where they belong.
While Auburn deserves the top spot in the country and in the SEC, nothing they did this past week proves that. Two road wins will always look good, but only beating Texas by five and South Carolina by three is not very convincing from the No. 1 team in the country.
Johni Broome also left Saturday's game with an injury that could impact the Tigers going forward as well.
Up next for Auburn this week is a home matchup with a highly ranked Mississippi State team before they hit the road again to travel to Georgia. These will be two difficult games, but the Tigers will be expected to win both as they are the top team in the SEC and country right now.
