Is parity increasing in the SEC?
One thing immediately jumps out when looking at these transfer portal rankings, most of the favorites to win the SEC in 2025 are towards the bottom of the list. The one conclusion everyone would draw from this is that parity in the conference will increase this season.
It's easy to think that way because teams like Georgia, Alabama, Texas and Tennessee, who many think are the favorites to win the SEC this season, are at the bottom of this list. That means that the teams who aren't as good theoretically are getting better at a faster rate and catching up to the favorites.
While that may be partially true, these powerhouse teams at the bottom like Georgia and Texas should not worry at all. The reason they are in the bottom half of these rankings is because their rosters needed less work this offseason. Their rosters are already at a championship level, so they don't need to add countless players out of the portal like some other teams do.
Take Ole Miss for example who has the No. 2 transfer portal class in the SEC. They have added a whopping 29 transfers so far this offseason where teams like Georgia and Texas only added 10 and 11 players. So it's impossible to judge how good teams will be off these rankings alone, because not every team needed to be as aggressive as others.
In all likelihood, the winner of the SEC will still be Georgia, Tennessee, Texas or Alabama, but a couple of the teams at the top of this ranking might be able to contend and scare these four favorites throughout the season.
