The NFL Combine is set to begin in two weeks in Indianapolis, IN which will give many Georgia football players the chance to show NFL organizations why they should draft them later this spring at the NFL Draft. Invites to the Combine were released on Thursday and Georgia had an impressive 14 players invited to the Combine this year which is two more than they had invited last year.
While all 14 players deserved to be invited, there were a few players that did not receive an invite that makes no sense. One of those players was defensive back Dan Jackson who is coming off his best season in Athens by far.
Whie Jackson being excluded was very disrespectful, there was another Bulldog who was arguably an even bigger snub than Jackson.
Did the NFL forget Chaz Chambliss exists?
Star Georgia linebacker Chaz Chambliss just wrapped up his fourth season at Georgia which was his best by far. He finished the year with 41 tackles which included a whopping 6.5 sacks.
There really is no explanation for how someone with that many sacks at a major program like Georgia gets left off the Combine invite list. No one is saying that Chambliss is the best linebacker in the country, but he 100 percent deserved an invite to show the NFL what he is capable of at the next level.
The good news for Chambliss is that he will get a chance to compete in front of NFL organizations at Georgia's Pro Day later this spring. Also, not being invited to the Combine does not mean he has no chance at being drafted. For example, in 2022 when Georgia set the NFL Draft record with 15 players selected, they only had 12 players invited to the Combine that year.
So while it obviously would have been nice for Chambliss to have received an invite to the Combine, it still would be very shocking if he was not drafted later this spring. Sure he might be selected in the later rounds now, but some team will take a chance on him and Chambliss will undoubtedly prove the rest of the NFL wrong with whoever drafts him.
