Georgia football’s 2025 season is just three weeks away, and the Bulldogs still don’t know who their starting quarterback will be. In all likelihood it will be Gunner Stockton, but until he is announced as UGA’s starter anything is possible.
But there is one former Bulldog who believes Stockton will win the starting job, and that is none other than Georgia legend Stetson Bennett.
"I'm excited to watch," Bennett shared via si.com. "I think Gunner [Stockton] is going to kill it and wish him all the best."
Stetson Bennett gives Gunner Stockton stamp of approval
Bennett is the one quarterback that every player at Georgia looks up to. That is especially the case when it comes to quarterbacks at UGA. So if Bennett is confident in Stockton heading into this season, then he likely is the best choice for the Bulldogs this year.
As mentioned, Stockton has not been named the starter quite yet, but there are a lot of signs that point to him being the obvious choice this season. Not only was Stockton one of the three Georgia players who attended SEC Media Days a few weeks ago, but Kirby Smart and Mike Bobo have been talking to the media like he will be their starting QB.
Stockton has a chance to officially win the starting quarterback job this weekend when Georgia has their first scrimmage of fall camp. While there will be many important competitions taking place during this scrimmage, the quarterback competition between Stockton and Ryan Puglisi will arguably be the most important. Puglisi has a chance to extend this competition to continue into fall camp if he plays well, but Stockton could end the quarterback debate once and for all.
Smart may still opt to not announce who their starting QB will be just yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising to find out that Stockton was quietly named the starter in the locker room after this weekend.
