Former Georgia football quarterback Stetson Bennett is entering his third season in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams. Up to this point, Bennett has only appeared in preseason games and is yet to make an impact during the regular season. That however was expected coming out of college, but the hope is that this will change in the future.

Entering the 2025 season, Bennett has hopes of continuing to grow into the successful NFL quarterback every Georgia fan knows he can be. And according to Rams offensive coordinator Mike LeFleur, Bennett is right on track with where they were hoping he would be.

“He’s shown a ton of growth, particularly from two years ago," LeFleur shared via si.com. “A lot of credit to him, and also to [quarterbacks coach] Dave [Ragone], Jimmy, and Matthew. They’ve taken him under their wings, and it’s showing. He’s on the right track.”

“He just needs to play football,” LaFleur continued. “Right now, it’s flag football in shorts. But he’s preparing like a pro every day to give himself the best shot when preseason comes.”

Bennett's future may be in Los Angeles

Bennett is entering a very pivotal point in his professional career. Entering the 2025 season, Bennett is firmly set as the third string quarterback with the Rams behind starter Matthew Stafford and backup Jimmy Garoppolo. However, if Bennett is able to prove himself over these next two seasons, he could become the Rams future starter.

Before that can happen, Bennett needs to move up the depth chart to become the backup to Stafford. That could happen naturally as Garoppolo's deal with the Rams ends after the 2025 season, so if Bennett shows the Rams enough this season they might be fine with letting Garoppolo go and have Bennett be the new backup to Stafford.

This is where things would get even more interesting because both Stafford and Bennett will be free agents during the 2027 offseason. The Rams showed some hesitancy this offseason to sign Stafford again, so after two more years they very well could be ready to move on from him. The Rams could draft a new quarterback at that point or grab a big name out of free agency, but Bennett could also step into the starting role if he proves himself over the next two seasons.

The journey to become the starter for the Rams may still seem a little out of reach for Bennett, but if anyone can do it than Bennett certainly is that player.
