Surprise 5-star recruit spurns Florida, now visiting Georgia
Georgia football has a massive game against No. 7 Tennessee Saturday night in Athens. And while this game clearly is the biggest thing happening for Georgia today, recruiting is also taking center stage as well.
This is the first home game for Georgia in over a month, so that means UGA can finally bring in all of their commits and top recruits that they are targeting in for a visit. Many elite prospects have already announced that they will be in Georgia at the game today, but a new visitor has shocked everyone by announcing today that he will be in Athens.
5-star corner DJ Pickett
According to Steve Wiltfong of On3, five-star corner DJ Pickett has shockingly announced that he will be at Georgia for Saturday’s game against Tennessee.
According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Pickett is the No. 9 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 2 corner in the 2025 class and the top ranked player from Florida.
While a visit from a five-star recruit is very normal for Georgia, this visit is surprising for a couple reasons. The first being that Pickett is currently committed to LSU. But even still, it’s not uncommon for Georgia to have players committed to other schools visit, but there is one other piece of this puzzle that makes this very surprising.
Pickett was originally scheduled to visit Florida on Saturday, but at the last second has changed his mind and is coming to Georgia instead. Moves like this don’t happen all the time, but it shows just how elite of a recruiter Kirby Smart is. And it makes it all the better that Pickett is ditching rival Florida to come to Athens.
It remains to be seen if Pickett will flip his commitment from LSU to Georgia, but UGA currently looks like the most likely team to pull that off.
