Georgia football has seen a lot of turnover in their wide recevier room this offseason, so one thing that could have easily been missing with this group this season is veteran leadership. That however is not the case because senior Colbie Young has stepped up to become the leader of this group, according to Offensive Coordinator Mike Bobo.

“Well, I’ve been extremely impressed with Colbie. Colbie, one, he’s grateful to be here,” Bobo shared via on3.com. “…And since he’s been back every day, he doesn’t take a play off. And he’s a guy that we brought in out of the portal, but he is probably the leader in that room. He sets the standard of how to work. And I’m not just talking about whether it’s route running or catching balls, it’s blocking, it’s his effort.”

Colbie Young is the unlikely leader Georgia needs

Young is entering his second season at Georgia after transferring from Miami (FL) after the 2023 season. Expectations were growing for him during the 2024 season after his great start to the year, but Young only played in five games before running into some off the field troubles.

These issues caused Young to be suspended for the rest of the season, making his status as a Bulldog uncertain.

These off the field issues are now behind him though, and Young has been fully back with the team this fall. And according to Bobo, he not only is back but has quickly become the leader of Georgia's wide receivers.

Young projects to be one of UGA's three starters at wide receiver this season, but his role on this team is more important than that. His job is to be the bridge this season to help all the new transfers and freshman learn what it takes to be successful at Georgia, and so far it sounds like he has been excelling in that role.
