Texas is still a very new face in the SEC, but they are a serious problem for Georgia football. The Longhorns nearly won the conference in their first season in the league, which most thought would be impossible for them to do.
Thankfully Georgia beat them twice last season, which included their heroic comeback victory in the SEC Championship game, to prevent the Longhorns from claiming the SEC title in their first season. But if Georgia learned anything from the 2024 season, it’s that Texas will be a threat for years to come.
That fact became even more clear after five-star Texas quarterback commit Dia Bell was just named the Elite 11 camp MVP.

Future Texas QB will create serious problems for Georgia
The Elite 11 is a football camp and competition for quarterbacks that gives upcoming high school seniors a chance to compete against one another. Every summer this event features the best quarterbacks in the current recruiting class, so being named the MVP is a significant accomplishment.
That is exactly what Texas’s QB commit was able to accomplish this past week.
Before Georgia fans get too worried, UGA quarterback commit Jared Curtis chose to not participate in this event. It’s unclear why he made that decision, but Bell did not win the MVP award over Curtis.
Regardless, the fact Bell was able to win this award anyways is a big concern for Georgia. In all likelihood, Texas is the program moving forward that will be Georgia’s biggest competition in the SEC. Sure there are a lot of other programs, mainly Alabama, who are a significant threat as well, but the Longhorns undoubtedly are the program that could take the top spot in the SEC away from Georgia.
These two teams will face each other towards the end of the season in Athens this year, and there’s even a chance they meet in the SEC Championship game again, but this matchup has a chance to become the newest rivalry in the SEC. All it takes is a few years in a row of battling it out for the SEC title, which is what happened during the 2024 season, for these programs and fanbases to really hate each other.
And based on how both programs are recruiting, it appears there will be plenty more heated games on the field for years to come.
