Georgia football is one week removed from their 22-19 overtime victory in the SEC Championship game against Texas. And what an amazing game it was.
Everyone thought Georgia stood no chance after Carson Beck went down with an injury on the final play of the first half, but that wasn't the case. The Bulldogs came out in the second half behind backup QB Gunner Stockton and went on to beat the Longhorns in an instant classic.
But how did Georgia get it done? Georgia's defense definitely played a big role in UGA's win, as did running back Trevor Etienne's two touchdown performance. But the Bulldogs also received some help from the Longhorns, who had season low performances in two key stats.
Texas had 2 "worst of the season" against UGA in the #SECChampionship:

Missed tackles = 15
Drops = 6
Missed tackles and drops
As shared in the above post, the Longhorns had their most missed tackes in any game this season with 15. To be fair, Georgia does deserve some credit for this as they played a huge role in the Longhorns struggles on defense when it comes to tackling, but the next stat is something that Georgia doesn't deserve any credit for.
The stat that Georgia doesn’t deserve any credit for causing is the Longhorns’ six drops. This is one where UGA just got a little lucky, but there is still a good takeaway from it.
One thing that can cause drops is playing nervous and not being able to stay calm in as big of a game like the SEC Championship game is. So the Texas receivers may have had issues with this, which caused them to drop a lot of passes.
Georgia on the other hand has had a lot of issues with drops this season as well, but they were able to make up for it in this game because of their elite run game, especially in the second half. The Longhorns however were not able to rely on their run game as they only recorded 31 yards on the ground.
So while there are many reasons why Georgia beat Texas last weekend, these two stats definitely stand out. Hopefully these stats continue to impact Georgia's future opponents in the College Football Playoff, because if this continues then UGA will have a great chance at making a run in the CFP.
