The College Football Playoff committee has new ammo to unload on Georgia this year

The College Football Playoff committee was not a fan of Georgia football last season. Sure the Bulldogs were finished as the No. 2 team in their final rankings last season, but the committee consistently ranked Georgia far too low for multiple weeks after Georgia lost to Ole Miss last year.

Georgia and the CFP committee are now turning their attention to the 2025 season, and the Bulldogs are hoping the committee treats them more fairly this year. But there is one detail that the committee probably won’t like and could ultimately hold against Georgia when it comes time for them to release their weekly rankings.

"Road upsets. Winning at Tennessee, Auburn and Mississippi State won't be easy, but if Georgia is a true national title contender, it shouldn't have a losing road record," ESPN reported Heather Dinich shared via 247sports.com. "The neutral-site game against rival Florida is also a chance to impress the committee away from Athens, but the reality is Georgia has only those three true road games -- and should be the favorite on every trip."

Lack of road games could haunt Georgia

No one can deny how difficult Georgia’s schedule is this year. The Bulldogs have the pleasure of playing teams like Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida and Georgia Tech which already makes for one of the most difficult schedules in the sport.

But one thing missing from UGA’s schedule is a good amount of true road games. This is the one thing that ESPN reporter Heather Dinich pointed out in her above statement as she believes the CFP committee could hold it against Georgia.

UGA plays just three road games this season against Tennessee, Auburn and Mississippi State. Winning on the road is the most difficult thing to do in college football, so those wins always look better compared to wins at home or at a neutral site. So Georgia’s lack of road wins this season could be held against them.

Georgia’s game against Mississippi State is a must win based simply on the fact of how bad they will be. But Georgia has to take advantage of their two other road games as a way to help build a strong resume. Wins against Tennessee and Auburn on the road would look very strong this season, but dropping one or both would be disastrous.

Georgia however likely needs to go 3-0 in these games if they want any respect from the CFP committee, because even if they go 2-1 their resume could take a hit for only having two road wins this season.
