This is a loss that's going to sting for a while. On Saturday night in Athens, Georgia football was in a 15-round heavyweight fight with Alabama, but Kalen DeBoer and the Tide were the ones who landed the haymaker to close things out. There are plenty of disappointments to talk about from the 24-21 loss.
Among those at the top of the list has to be the play of the defense, especially on third down. Defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann didn't have any answers in pressure situations going up against Ty Simpson and Bama. The fact that Alabama converted on 13 third-down plays is absurd - it's also the most given up by a UGA defense since the 90s.
Kirby Smart defends himself after viral 4th down blunder
The 13 3rd downs Alabama converted are most Georgia has allowed in any game in the last 30 seasons.

Georgia fans are not happy with DC Glenn Schumann after the loss to Alabama
Come on, you can't let this happen when you're playing a close game against one of your biggest rivals. At the end of the day, Georgia had plenty of opportunities to either tie this game or take the lead, but a lack of execution haunted the Dawgs.
On offense, the dropped Talyn Taylor ball that would have led to a go-ahead TD hurt. Kirby Smart deciding to go for it on 4th down, which he still thinks was the right call, instead of kicking the field goal to tie it was beyond questionable.
Defensively, though, Georgia indeed had no answers for Simpson and Co. This was the biggest game of Simpson's career and he finished things throwing for 276 yards and two touchdowns - his game-sealing toss to Jam Miller on the misdirection call from Ryan Grubb caught the Georgia D completely off guard.
There's a lot to clean up on both sides of the ball for Georgia, as the program still has a lot of season left in front of it. With that said, Schumann needs to wake up and mix things up to prevent rough showings from getting posted like this. The same can of course be said for Mike Bobo, as his play-calling continues to infuriate Dawgs fans everywhere.
