Something has to give when No. 17 Alabama comes to Athens to take on No. 5 Georgia Between the Hedges. While Alabama has had Georgia's number for the better part of two decades now, nobody is coming into Sanford Stadium and beating the Dawgs. Alabama may be 9-2 over Georgia in its last 11 meetings, but Bulldogs have won an FBS-best 33 consecutive games at home dating back to 2019.
The last time Georgia succumbed to defeat at home was to rival South Carolina in overtime before COVID. There are reasons why Sanford Stadium has been an underrated home-field advantage for Georgia. Part of it is because many of the greatest moments in Georgia history have been away from Athens. Another part is many of these games being played Between the Hedges have not been close.
Kalen DeBoer knows about the 33-game home winning streak, but does he know these two nuggets?
Georgia has won 33 CONSECUTIVE games at home, the longest IN THE NATION.

During this streak they’ve beaten 8 top 15 teams.
Only 4 games were decided by less than 10 points.
There is no way Alabama comes into Athens and knocks off the Dawgs!

Since falling at home to South Carolina in overtime in 2019, Georgia has beaten eight top-15 teams. Of those eight games of consequence, only four have been decided by fewer than 10 points. This means Georgia stands a chance to beat Alabama by multiple scores on Saturday night in primetime. Alabama has been in Georgia's head for years, but the Crimson Tide have not played here in a minute.
Should Georgia protect its home turf on Saturday night, the Dawgs could be getting back to Atlanta.
Now is time to stop sleeping on Georgia's massive home-field advantage
Even if the betting line has dropped considerably in Alabama's favor, Georgia is still a 3.5-point home favorite at home. What is important to know is that even though Alabama did get another past the Dawgs last season, that game was in Tuscaloosa. More importantly, DeBoer is not Nick Saban. The greatest head coach in college football history went 8-2 against the Dawgs during his dynastic run.
Yes, Georgia is coming off an emotional win over rival Tennessee up in Knoxville. Although Alabama just had its bye week too, the Crimson Tide's win over toothless Wisconsin was at home. The Badgers might be the worst team in the Big Ten when it is all said and done... Truth be told, Alabama is a bit desperate coming in. They already have one brutal loss on the season on the road to Florida State.
Is Georgia going to blow out Alabama? Nothing leads me to believe that will happen. If it is a multi-possession victory for Georiga, it will be closer to 10 points than to 16. Saturday is all about Georgia protecting the football, getting after the passer and not getting beat over the top in pass defense. Georgia needs to prove it has a better coaching staff than Alabama to come out on top in this one.
Just because there is hope for Georgia to change the tide on the Tide does not mean it will happen.
