The Georgia Bulldogs are not playing in the Fiesta Bowl because of rampant coaching malpractice. It was a terrible day for Kirby Smart and his staff, as they did everything in their power to lose to the Ole Miss Rebels in their rematch from the regular season. Smart, offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, and defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann have to own this loss. This defeat was not on their players.
Leave it up to former Georgia star wide receiver Tavarres King to call out Schumann for this brain fart.
Pressed up Single High… 30 seconds left on the clock is wild…

For those who missed it, here was the worst play call in the time of Schumann being a coordinator.
I can’t get over ts Glenn Schumann goin to hell 😭pic.twitter.com/Lu1N1g3lrJ

On a third-and-5 with 32 seconds left, Schumann somehow allowed for Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to make arguably his greatest completion as a collegiate. This pass to De'Zhaun Stribling should not have happened because why on God's green earth are we calling a pressed single high coverage at this stage of the game?! Ole Miss had no timeouts left?! What are we doing?!
Just when we thought Schumann redeemed himself from a bad first half of the year, he does this...
Glenn Schumann needs to be relieved of his duties as Georgia's DC
What was so especially painful about this loss for Georgia was how receptive this team was to coaching. This may not have been the most talented team in Georgia history. The 2025-26 Bulldogs were rather green. They shall grow from this. That being said, when it mattered the most, the Georgia coaching staff chose every opportunity imaginable to throw up all over itself in embarrassing fashion.
While Bobo has had his moments as a coordinator, as illustrated by being a finalist for the Broyles Award as college football's top assistant for the third time in his career this year, Smart needs to stop propping up this coaching branch that will never blossom in Schumann. He was unable to generate a pass rush for most of the year. Smart would have to bail him out in the secondary pretty much weekly.
In the end, Georgia is not going to win a College Football Playoff in the current 12-team format when it has a pair of at-best, B-plus coordinators. Yes, there are weeks where Bobo and Schumann look the part. However, we may have to accept that Georgia has not been the same program when it counts after losing Dan Lanning to Oregon and Todd Monken to the Baltimore Ravens over in the NFL, folks...
Because Smart already has two national titles under his belt, expect for Schumann to be back again...
