When looking at the Georgia Bulldogs in 2025, there are several players you can call the captains or leaders of the team. However, two of the biggest were Zachariah Branch and Daylen Everette.
This past NFL Draft both guys went in the third round to teams that plan to start them immediately. With Branch going to the Falcons, he looks to be the slot receiver Atlanta has needed for some time. For Everette and the Pittsburgh Steelers, he looks to be the ideal boundary corner to help create some big plays for the defense.
We knew that eventually both of these Bulldogs were going to be tested early in the league. However, when the NFL released their regular season schedule for all 32 teams nobody really expected for this NFC-AFC matchup to happen.
But Georgia fans will get to see two of their favorites from last season line up across each other.
Two Georgia fan favorites are matched up against each other in week 1 in the NFL
It is not a common occurrence for the Steelers to play the Falcons in the regular season. However, that is exactly what week one of this season will bring as the Steelers host the Falcons on September 13.
Since Branch is expected to be in the slot and Everette is expected to be third on the depth chart at corner, the former CB1 and WR1 in Athens will likely be face to face at some point during this game in September.
This will be a fun and exciting matchup for the entire league to watch, but Georgia fans will love this opportunity to see two of their favorites go head-to-head so early in their careers.
Branch and Everette's impressive careers at Georgia add excitement to this matchup
Branch had a record breaking year for Georgia last season. Reeling in over 80 receptions, the receiver broke the single season record in Athens for total catches.
Branch was Gunner Stockton's No. 1 target all season and it was not even close. Without Branch there is no telling what Georgia's season would have looked like last year. Now with Atlanta, he is looking to play in a very similar scheme in the slot without having to be the top playmaker with help from Drake London and Bijan Robinson.
Everette was the top corner for Georgia his junior and senior season. With electric turnovers in tight games such as Texas in the 2024 SEC Championship game, Everette was the guy known to cause chaos when it was needed. The Steelers got themselves an absolute steal in the third round with his ability to play tight man coverage while also being great in run support.
It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this week one matchup, but Georgia fans better mark their calendars because they won't want to miss this one.
